One Album Per Hour | BeardymanDarren Foreman is performing at the Sydney Opera House as part of this year’s Just for Laughs festival in Sydney. Foreman, better known as Beardyman, is a talented and brilliant vocal genius. Each night of his show, One Album Per Hour, is distinctively different as he creates an album using song titles given to him by the audience prior to the performance. My biggest issue is that it is only on for two nights and I want to go every night for the next week at least.

Foreman uses a system he designed himself that allows him to record and loop the noises he makes and mixes them together to create mind blowing musical tracks. The sounds that come from the man are amazing and this combined with his tech savvy knowhow give him endless resources for making music. He then layers on his hysterical and at times razor sharp lyrics – and songs are created in the moment.

Beardyman’s beatboxing skills are unquestionable and the audience will sit in awe at the gamut of sounds his vocal cords can produce.

Beardyman is not only quick witted and a joy to listen to but also an extraordinarily talented craftsman. His whole show is a continuous rapid fire of elements that he manages to expertly turn into a brilliantly produced show. But the real joy of the show is not Beardyman the beatboxer or capable music maker it is Darren Foreman the man. Foreman is warm and clever and his engagement with the audience bring sense of casual intimacy. It feels like you are in his lounge room; hanging out, listening to music, throwing ideas around. He makes you feel like you are important to the collaboration just by laughing and enjoying the show.

Beardyman is awesome and should not be missed.

A gifted embroider of words, Friel combines soft lyricism and hard meaning in his play, a tragical comical historical pastoral on a spree and spoiling for a spirited spar.

Iolanthe and Janet Anderson work in cosmic, comedic accord, characterisation charismatic, timing impeccable, delivery precise, together a tour de force that ascends the cliché.
